Hatters Cottage is a detached 18th-Century stone self-catering cottage in a secluded location near the centre of the southern Lake District at Hawkshead Hill, near Ambleside in Cumbria. It is situated 150 metres from public roads, on a small farm near a hilltop between Coniston and Windermere lakes. The picturesque village of Hawkshead is one mile away.
The interior of Hatters Cottage has been fully renovated with 2 bedrooms, a shower room, a modern kitchen, gas central heating and double glazing throughout. The cottage retains its original stone hearth, wooden beams and small-paned windows. It was used for hat-making during the heyday of the local wool trade and the structure retains evidence of this.
Hatters Cottage is beside a small stream, surrounded by gardens, fields, and woodland, with mountain views. A sunny, leafy garden and patio in front of the holiday cottage with a garden table and chairs are for the sole use of tenants. The 17th Century farmhouse and stone barn are nearby. The farm (5 acres) is run by the owners as a smallholding (no tractors!). The holiday cottage is the only holiday property on the farm.
At this holiday cottage one can walk or cycle from the door in all directions on footpaths, quiet lanes & forest tracks. Mountain walking, sailing, canoeing, pony trekking, rock climbing and boat trips are available nearby.
