Balnagore Moss Estate Three Cottages, Machrie, Isle of Arran (Sleeps 1-10)


Balnagore Moss Estate Three Cottages are situated on the undisturbed west coast of Arran in the hamlet of Machrie, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a haven for wildlife. Each house affords stunning views of the surrounding countryside; a mixture of sea, moorland and hills, with the famous Goat Fell peak in the distance. Less than a mile away is the Machriewater river for fishing, Machrie’s 9 hole golf course, tea room, tennis court and children’s play area. There is access here to the unspoilt seashore.

Three miles to the south is the village of Blackwaterfoot, which has a picturesque harbour and a mile of sandy, dog-friendly beaches, as well as Shiskine golf course and tearoom.

There is a Celtic fort on the nearby cliffs of Drumadoon Point.

Blackwaterfoot has a butcher, Post Office and licensed grocer, bakery, newsagent and gift shop.

The garage sells petrol, logs and kindling and car hire is available.

The Kinloch and Blackwaterfoot Hotels both have restaurants and a bar, and nearby is a hairdresser, art gallery and riding stables, and a children’s play area. The Kinloch Hotel has a swimming pool and squash courts open to the public.

Six miles to the north of Machrie is the village of Pirnmill, with a post office and licensed grocer and the excellent Lighthouse restaurant.

Three miles to the east of Machrie, across the moor, is the Balmichael Visitor Centre. It offers a range of local craft shops, a coffee shop and children’s activities, as well as laser shooting and archery.

The nearby Bridge Farm sells a variety of products and will deliver milk and other groceries on request.

The island is rich in archaeology and geological interest.

Cycle/car hire is available in Brodick, car hire in Blackwaterfoot.

Brodick is home to the Arran Heritage Museum.

Sheepdog trials/birds of prey exhibitions are common throughout the year.

Holy Isle boat trips run throughout the summer from Lamlash pier.

The world-famous PS Waverley, the last remaining paddle steamer in service, visits Arran throughout the summer months.

Guided walks are available from the Ranger Centre within Brodick Castle grounds.
