Shetland Lighthouse Holidays, Shetland, Shetland Islands (Sleeps 7)
Textumburgh Lighthouse
Sumburgh Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Shetland, and perhaps the most well-known. Rising above the precipitous Sumburgh Head cliffs at the southernmost point of mainland Shetland, the Lighthouse is visible from land and sea for miles around, and is the first view of mainland Shetland for anyone arriving by sea or air.
The experience of Sumburgh Lighthouse begins on the approach to the property with the compulsion to peer over the walls at the powerful waves crashing on to the rocks below and the grace of the seabirds floating on the air currents. The whole area has recently been developed in a £5.4 million project to preserve the lighthouse buildings and provide a Visitor Centre. The self-catering accommodation was refurbished to a high luxury standard and was awarded a four star rating from Visit Scotland.
Complete with electric Aga cooker, gas hob, underfloor heating and sleeping up to five adults, this is a spectacular location and a beautiful property.
Bressay Lighthouse
Situated on the rocky headland at the south entrance to Lerwick Harbour, Bressay Lighthouse is an iconic image for any visitor to the isles.
Passing the ‘Bressa Light’ is the start and finishing post for any journey to or from Shetland by sea, and it is a welcome landmark for locals and visitors alike.
The nineteenth century lighthouse provides a tranquil and peaceful retreat with open views across the sea, and over to the capital town of Lerwick. Bressay is a five minute ferry ride away from the town, with its bars, shops, restaurants and five star Museum and Archives. It’s a perfect balance of rural with accessible bustle!
There are two ex-lighthouse keepers cottages at Bressay, each with three bedrooms and sleeping up to six adults with a cot also available for infants. The properties include all the comforts of home and everything you need for an enjoyable stay.
Perfect for a family holiday, or enjoying a getaway with friends, the opportunity to stay in one of Shetland’s most famous landmarks is not to be missed.
Eshaness Lighthouse
If you are looking for a true 'get away from it all' holiday then Eshaness Lighthouse is the perfect location.
Eshaness Lighthouse is situated an hour’s drive from Shetland's capital town Lerwick. The lighthouse is on the North West coast of mainland Shetland. There are no visible neighbours and the warm cosy feel inside the lighthouse on a wild and stormy night is an experience never to be forgotten.
Eshaness Lighthouse is perched atop some of the most dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery in the UK. The area is one of the top attractions for visitors and locals alike with breathtaking open views in every direction and the very best of Shetland scenery and wildlife.
The homely interior of the lighthouse has a real romantic feel. The personal touches throughout the property give a real sense of comfort and relaxation. The cottage has three rooms which sleep up to 6 adults.
From the very tip of Shetland's southernmost point in Sumburgh, to the dramatic North West cliffs of Eshaness and the exposed outcrop of Bressay; each location offers a unique and unforgettable holiday destination
