Ait Aoibhinn Cottage, Dugort, Achill Island, Co Mayo (Sleeps 6)

One of the great attractions on Achill Island is the deserted village situated on the slopes of Slievemore with over 70 abandoned homesteads, an outstanding and haunting example of a culture and a way of life now almost completely gone. The island itself is one of the few “drive on – drive off” islands along the coast – being joined to the mainland by a bridge at Achill Sound.

The setting of the house is indeed unique. The Blue Flag, Silver Strand is 50m for the door and is never completely covered by sea – even at high tide. It ensures comfortable and safe bathing (no stones underfoot).
There are 2 hotels/bars/restaurants in the village, which provide entertainment and refreshments throughout most of the year.
